Fresh Ideas
April 2010

Watch that sun!
Cumulative sun exposure slows down cell turnover and also triggers radical activity that damages the cell membrane. This results in surface changes that appear in aging skin, especially fine line and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation (sunspots), skin cancers and coarse, thickened texture. Wear that sunscreen!

Blackheads.... just what are they?
Blackheads or commedones are flat, blackish dots, usually along the oily T-zone area. They are oil-filled pores which remain open. Air oxidizes the oil, causing it to appear dark. The key to keeping the T-zone clear is to routinely deep pore cleanse to dissolve and desincrust the oil & use a clay-based masque to draw out the impurities.

Skin Dehydration - a problem for many.
Dehydration of the skin's surface, the epidermis, occurs through a process called "trans-epidermal moisture loss". The major causes are evaporation and removal of sebum (oil) from the surface of the skin by the use of harsh, drying soaps and cleansers. It is virtually important to the health of the skin to maintain the Natural Moisture Factor and acid mantle. Choose products that supplement and augment the skin's natural protection or regulate excess oils and maintain moisture levels, always with respect to the function of the skin.

Stop the Posion Ivy!
Washing the affected area with cold running water within 5 minutes of exposure will miminmize the spreading by removing the oil causing the reaction. Even up to 30 minutes helps. Remember to wash everthing that has been exposed (garden tools, gloves, pets, etc.) to prevent reinfection!

Lips, Lips, Lips!
It is easier to apply lipstick straight from the tube but if the lipstick is really to last nothing beats applying it with a brush.

Conceal it!
A concealer brush, flat with a slightly domed tip, is perfect for covering spots and dark circles without smears. This brush allows one to use just the right amount of product from sheer to no-show coverage.

Blended Blush!
Powder blush should be applied with a light touch and always with a generously sized, chisel dome brush. Before applying - never go straight from the compact to the cheeks. These 3 things will allow the blush to be blended and natural with just the right amount of color.

Naturally strengthened nails!
Soak nails in a bowl of olive oil once a week to nourish, protect and strenghten.

Fast Dry!
Cold air sets nail polish fast. Use your hair dryer on the "cold button" for a couple of minutes on each hand and the polish will set. Even in the humidity!
